Joe the Plumber IS America

October 16, 2008

Mainstream media can’t understand why Joe the Plumber resonates with most Americans. Like many of you, he’s sick and tired of people in the Drive-By Media, Hollywood actors, and liberal politicians like Obama saying how much America sucks. America is the hope of the modern world. As Ronald Reagan and now Sarah Palin have stated, America is the “shining city on a hill,” a beacon of freedom where inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are endowed by God and not government.

Like most Americans, Joe wants to earn more money and realize his dream of owning his own business.  As he told Fox News Channel’s Neil Cavuto, “Robin Hood stole from greedy rich people and redistributed it to the peasants, so to speak, so if he’s calling us peasants, I kind of resent that… [The American Dream is] you work hard. You’re going to get what you want eventually … I just resent the government or Barack Obama’s plan to take more away from me.”

AMEN! Barack Obama has to nuance everything he says because he believes in socialism. As Joe pointed out to Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, what’s to prevent Obama from deciding that $150,000/year or $100,000/year is considered “rich” and therefore people who earn those amounts of money have to give more of their hard-earned money in taxes? It’s the slippery slope of socialism. That is NOT what this country was founded upon. With the economy struggling, common sense tells you that you need to create wealth and a way to create wealth is to CUT taxes. Obama wants to raise capital gains, corporate, AND personal income taxes so as to “spread the wealth around.” Why should I give some of my hard-earned money to people who sit on their butt all day and wait for a check and a chunk of cheese in their mailbox?  If I want to give my money to someone, that’s MY decision, NOT the government’s! It all boils down to this on Election Day: Do we want freedom or socialism? As Benjamin Franklin said, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
